In all his four hundred years, Rayven never met a woman like Rhianna McLeod. She is a vision of light, of warmth, of everything he is not—nor can ever be. Doomed to live forever in darkness and solitude, he knows all too well the risk in getting close to her, yet he hungers for her with a fierce passion he swears he will never allow himself to feel.Rhianna's father sold her to Rayven to put food on the table so she had no choice but to go with the dark stranger. To her surprise, he gives her everything she wants the finest clothes, education, and the run of the castle everything, that is, except his touch. For although she senses danger beneath the soft-spoken manner, although even Rayven himself warns her to stay away, she is drawn to this creature of the night, and loves him as she will no other.

"It's a bodice ripper. And it's a little...uncomfortable at the beginning when the vampire is admiring a child (15 yr old) a little more closely than he ought to, though nothing outright happens. It just toes a line that I think ought not be even presented. Otherwise the story is dark and decently written, though it is tiresome reading about the back and forth of "stay?- no. you must go!- No, now stay!- now go!-". Talk about beating a dead horse. But otherwise. Vampire sex. Blood drinking. What more could you ask for from a supernatural erotica?"

  • It's a bodice ripper. And it's a little...uncomfortable at the beginning when the vampire is admiring a child (15 yr old) a little more closely than he ought to, though nothing outright happens. It just toes a line that I think ought not be even presented. • Four & 1/2 Stars - What I liked about this book - This is a true love story. I tend to like more action, steamy sex scenes, witty banter between characters, bold and brazen acts, mysteries, and unique Vampire characteristics. Oddly, I really enjoyed this book and none of those things I love to read were here. Rayven had all of the typical attributes of a Vampyre - no sunlight, has somewhat of a problem with garlic, holy water, crosses, sleeps in a coffin on occasion, can erase minds, enthrall, has preternatural speed oh and drinks blood etc. Nothing unique about those characteristics yet this story kept me hooked. The author did a fantastic job of telling this beautiful love story. I felt sad, really sad when the characters were sad; so very happy when good things happened; lonely when they felt lonely...you get the picture.

I do have one complaint. The story ended too abruptly. It was like we spent the whole book going through the trials and triumphs of Rayven's and Rhianna's relationship and then all of a sudden, (trying not to give away too much) BAM! There was quick fix and the end. The author should have plugged some of the "quick fix" throughout the story. Instead it was too easy and then the book ended. I was disappointed but not too much since there was a happily ever after.

    Check it out and enjoy!
  • I haven't read a lot of Amanda Ashley, however I definitely will in the future. This story elicited many emotions, and isn't that what a great story teller does? I very much liked the twist in this story (don't want to spoil it for you). Do read the book and be delightfully surprised.
  • Probably my favorite Amanda Ashley paranormal romance. This one is more old-fashioned and historical with a haunt about the vampire that makes him want to be human again. A tortured soul, indeed, desiring to be freed. Most appreciate that aspect. There is a more poetic style to this story, as well. Eloquently written.
  • For a vampire novel it was okay. The vampire whines and moans about his existence and the couple never seems to be moving forward. Even at the end I'm sure Ravyn is still whining and complaining about something. Even the more romantic scenes are not to be believed.
  • I've read many of Amanda Ashley books before. She never fails to catch me now to be fair most of her books take me about five or six days this one took me 3 and if I didn't have a job maybe one. So I'm getting ready to go buy a couple more and hopefully tonight I will get some sleep.
  • I must say to every one that this story "a darker dream" is a truly great love story it will make you cry, it also will keep you in suspense. You will be on edge wondering what's going to happen next and if Rayven's wish for mortality will ever happen, so that he can fully show rihanna how much he truly loves her... An exceptional book, couldn't wait see what happened.
  • I have saved this book for so many years, because it was one of my favorite stories. I have now completed reading this book for the 5th time. I never tire of it! Every couple of months I will pick it back up and read it again, I don't lay it down till I have finished it AGAIN! I hope that everyone who reads it, enjoys it as much as I! God Bless!
