The Man She Married Toye Lawson Brown Books Reviews

  • I stayed up late to finish THE MAN SHE MARRIED because I had to LOL! This romance turned into a deadly cat & mouse game. Harper is an independent woman making the best of what she has. She’s smart, kind and realistically cautious. I like Brad for his confidence and plan to make Harper his wife. He is so patient - he takes his time with Harper when he knows that’s what she needs. The meat of this story happens after they're married. He doesn’t tell her the ugly stuff about his past and that omission will put their lives and relationship in jeopardy. Harper questions whether she can live in his world. Brad will do anything to make her stay. Their wedding vows will be tested. Good supporting characters - family, friends & enemies. Passionate scenes and violence. Some small grammatical errors. There are a couple of instances when I was surprised Brad didn’t hurt someone who offended Harper. Perhaps this was an example of his self-control. I liked this story. It was more than I expected, engrossing from the beginning. Worth the price!
  • This book had many opportunities to be a well carved great story. Am not sure if the author is very new at writing or if there was too much editing.
Harper's character baffled and confused me at times. It seems the author did not have a clear grasp on how to portray Harper. The character started out strong , wanting maybe an opportunity to have funds to go to school and develop a career. I did not get a sense the character would solely turn out to be a housewife who just stays home,, eat, and shop. She did not not even volunteer.
Harper at times it seems was having an identity crisis due to I seems the author may have had a hard time writing her.

The plot started out good but finished unsatisfied and not well developed but I can sense the author tried to tell a good story but it fell short. Many of the scenes lacked credibility and cohesiveness .
  • This book had potential but didn’t quite make it. Most of the book was anticlimactic. I couldn’t connect with any of the characters and, it was hard to follow during some of the scenes. I didn’t like this one.
  • Well I’m not a new reader of her books but it has been awhile that I saw something I liked.
Brad a 31 year old man who knows what he wants when it comes to the women he wants forever. Harper a woman who is pretty much a loner she has one friend who is 30. Harper is a young 23. Raised by two of the most closed off people in the world. She doesn’t know what love should feel like she she stays to herself. She hasn’t dated much unlike Sara is happy being out there doing her thing. When Brad steps to Harper one morning in the coffee shop her life will change forever.
But Brad has things in his life which he thought were really behind him, oh but no. Things move really fast in the beginning of this story. The first 24% They start to date, and five months later they are engaged to be married in two weeks.
I would have loved to read about the fabulous wedding first hand, instead of all the other stuff that came along.
Things after went fast. Next you know five years has gone by.😒 no kids they are worried. Harper at times made my head hurt. She was kind of messy and Brad just was trying to hold on to his wife. Her mom was messy also.
But the tides changed and you find yourself in the middle of old mobster revenge.
I think the lack of being able to get pregnant was Harper not being able to truly trust Brad even before the trouble started. Her mother always wanted her to know about his background. Let go Harper, and the babies will show up. She also talked to Brad pretty crappy when the going got tuff. She acted Shi##y. Hey Libby! 👶🏼
    Hi Libby❤️
  • I love this authors books but this one was just disappointing. The female lead was so boring. She did nothing after her marriage. The grandma mentioned that her mum used to be bright and happy and that was it no further explanation. The lead guy was portrayed as a tough guy but again his character wasnt developed enough. Overall just a boring story.
  • I Really loved this book. Brad is so different from any other hero, that To be have written. I love all of Toye's books. She is an automatic 1click for me always.
  • Brad met Harper while she was in a coffee shop and from then, worked hard to sweep her off of her feet. After several encounters with his past, they were able to experience their happiness and work on their future together.
  • Lots of excitement going on in this book. Definitely a page turner. What do you do when your past catches up to you and threatens your happiness and your future? Find out from Brad and Harper. He would keep her safe, but could she be his ride or die? Decently good read . Some grammatical errors, but not too much of a distraction.
